Argo CD Image Updater

Argo CD Image Updater is a tool to automatically update the container images of Kubernetes workloads which are managed by Argo CD. In a nutshell, it will track image versions specified by annotations on the Argo CD Application resources and update them by setting parameter overrides using the Argo CD API.

Currently it will only work with applications that are built using Kustomize or Helm tooling. Applications built from plain YAML or custom tools are not supported yet (and maybe never will).

MinIO Kubernetes Operator

MinIO is a Kubernetes-native high performance object store with an S3-compatible API. The MinIO Kubernetes Operator supports deploying MinIO Tenants onto private and public cloud infrastructures (“Hybrid” Cloud).

Flux-local

Flux-local is a set of tools and libraries for managing a local flux gitops repository focused on validation steps to help improve quality of commits, PRs, and general local testing.

Dokku

An open source PAAS alternative to Heroku.Dokku helps you build and manage the lifecycle of applications from building to scaling.

Microsoft Azure Introduces Retina: a Cloud Native Container Networking Observability Platform

The Microsoft Azure Container Networking team recently announced an open-source project named Retina. This cloud-native container networking observability platform allows DevOps engineers and administrators to visualize, debug, and analyze workload traffic across diverse environments.

Retina collects customizable telemetry that can be sent to various storage solutions, including Prometheus, Azure Monitor, and other providers, and displayed through different offerings such as Grafana, Azure Log Analytics, and other platforms. It is not tied to Azure directly; users can run Retina in any Kubernetes instance, on-premises, or in AWS, Azure, or GCP.

A 2024 K8s Benchmark Report: the latest trends in workload reliability

Using data from over 330,000 workloads and hundreds of organizations, Fairwinds created the 2024 Kubernetes Benchmark Report, which analyzes trends in 2024 and compares the results to 2022 and 2023 benchmarks. Even though organizations are already deploying Kubernetes workloads in production, many still face challenges with aligning to Kubernetes best practices. Unfortunately, lack of alignment may result in significant consequences: increased security risks, out-of-control cloud costs, and reduced reliability for apps and services. The benchmark analysis reviewed all of these topics, while this post focuses on six areas related to workload reliability to help you identify areas where you’re doing well or need to make some improvements.
